What is a shear wave elastography ultrasound?

Liver elastography is a specialized ultrasound technique that assesses the stiffness or elasticity of liver tissues. It is primarily used to evaluate liver conditions such as fibrosis and cirrhosis. By measuring tissue stiffness, liver elastography helps healthcare providers diagnose liver diseases and assess disease progression. This non-invasive method is especially valuable for monitoring liver health and guiding treatment decisions, particularly in individuals with chronic liver conditions.

How do I prepare for an elastography scan?

We ask patients to fast for 5 hours before the scan. If patients need to drink some water with their medication that is fine as well.

Do I need an appointment?

It is best to make an appointment for the scan however Precise Radiology will try to accommodate walk-ins if possible on the day.

What are the costs involved?

From my first contact with this company I had a good feeling. The guy on the phone (sorry didn’t catch his name) was polite, helpful, answered all my questions and was able to get us in urgently. On arrival at the facility, again staff were attentive and friendly. What a breath of fresh air. I wish they could sprinkle some of their ‘happy dust’ on most other medical clinics. It’s so rare to have such a positive experience from beginning to end. Someone needs to recognise these employees and thank them for representing the company so well.
